About the Event
Skeptics on the Fringe presents:
Andras Pinter, Professional tour guide, producer and co-host of The European Skeptics Podcast - The bullshit factory: An insider's skeptical look at the tourism industry
Ever questioned the information provided by guide books and tour guides you came across on your travels? Well, you probably should. The ever-growing tourism industry is built on individuals' need for new and exciting experiences and the hunger for more and more information. But the more you try to get within the given time, the more blury and shallow it all becomes. For lack of time, fact-checking is increasingly rare, while the urge to share the acquired 'knowledge' leads to a multiplication of both correct information and falsehoods out in the open. In the talk, I'll try to shed some light on the extent of this issue and why it should be of concern to all of us.
An original member and current vice president of the Hungarian Skeptic Society, Andras has been a skeptic for most of his adult life. In November 2015 he started The European Skeptics Podcast with two co-hosts (both from different countries) and in 2017 they won the Ockham Awards in the Best Podcast category. Along with keeping that weekly show running, he currently focuses on the falsehoods and misinformation circulating in the tourism industry.
