Talk – Oh, Rapture! It’s the Apocalypse

“And I stood upon the sand of the sea, and saw a beast rise up out of the sea, having seven heads and ten horns, and upon his horns ten crowns, and upon his heads the name of blasphemy.”

This is a typical passage from the Book of Revelation. It’s not a book that lends itself to easy interpretation – and, yet, we’ve all heard about the “literal interpretation” of the Bible that has a very specific list of events. And specific dates as to when it will – or was going to – happen.

How do you get from the Bible to the easy narrative taught in many churches, let alone to predicting dates?

Join us as we jump down the rabbit hole…

Adam Cuerden was raised in fundamentalist Christianity, before his whole family abandoned it at about the same time, but were too embarrassed to tell each other. He has been a member of Edinburgh Skeptics since 2011.

He can also be seen during the Festival singing in The Pirates of Penzance from August 18th to 25th.
